Data Access

We publicly share the Astrid simulation data in the following ways: Full particle-in-group data, along with the FOFGroups and SubFind subgroup catalogs can be found at the Astrid Data-Sharing Portal. The Astrid simulation is described in the presentation papers: Bird+2022; Ni+2022; Ni+2024. Please cite these papers if you are using the Astrid snapshot from this portal for your research. A web-based data query API is still under development. We are also working on releasing more post-processed data product such as the MBH histories, mergers and dual AGN catalogs. Stay tuned!

Astrid Data-Sharing Portal

The Astrid Data-Sharing Portal a web page for browsing the different directories that compose the Astrid snapshots, and you should use it when there is a need to download specific folders from the dataset over a web browser; or when you would like to transfer the complete dataset to your HPC resources over Globus (outside PSC's Bridges).

Astrid Auxilliary Data

In addition to the simulation snapshots and group catalogs we share in the Astrid web portal, we also provide the following data products from the simulation (the list will be updated constantly).

• Black hole merger catalog: we record all MBH merger events from ASTRID, and provide them as a numpy array with the following fields: ("zmerge","id1", "id2", "m1", "m2"). "zmerge" is the redshift when the merger happens in the simulation; "id1" and "id2" are unique particle IDs of the two merging BHs, which can be used to build merger trees and find them in snapshots; "m1" and "m2" are the two BH masses at the time of the merger, in solar mass unit. "m1" is the mass of "id1" and "m2" is the mass of "id2". Note that in this catalog "id1" is the merger remnant and "id2" is the swallowed BH particle, so after the merger event "id2" no longer exists in snapshots. "m1" is not necessarily larger than "m2". Please see Ni+2022; Chen+2022 for detailed description of the merger catalog, merging criterion and cite these two papers if you would like to use the merger catalog.
